The business of 'Smooching'
I've never liked the word 'smooching.' I see it often enough and perhaps I can blame the tabloids for ruining the word for me. 'celebrities caught smooching in a pub'...
For me, smooching is to the act of kissing what the porn industry is to the whole business of sex. How come, we still hang on to the word? Is it because it delights in sensation, like a lonely truck driver 'smooches' an ugly slut. As if she wasn't a willing party.
Even Paris Hilton doesn't smooch...she is caught schmoodling or canoodling or schmoozing..
Smooching sounds like a car horn...loud, like when you are telling someone to get off the road. Smooching sounds like the lingo we used in middle school... when the thrill of learning a new cuss word was the in thing. Smooching, two teenagers caught smooching... Smooching sounds like an act that was waiting to be caught, dirty, like the skid marks on your boyfriend's underwear?
I cringe when I hear it in people's writing... why smooching? why cant we be kissing again.
The 80's era C grade film where a villain like Kiron (something) would approach a girl.. lewd, loud, smacking his lips in the anticipation of delight... and a trembling girl(but of course) waiting and ready to be smooched.
Being smooched sounds like a lip-rape. Of course, who am I to bar eager attempts of experimentation...
